It's no surprise that attending dental school has become extremely expensive. Unfortunately, keeping up with the rising costs of attending school is often overwhelming for students, many of whom are young couples raising families.

The Scholarship program of the Academy of LDS Dentists is a manifestation of the members' desire to give. The Academy receives applications for assistance from 30-50 individuals each year. Since the beginning of the scholarship program, nearly 100 U.S. Students and international students from third-world countries have benefited from the generosity of the Academy members.

Tens of thousands of dollars in grants have been awarded to assist students who are having difficulty meeting the financial demands of dental school. Many of these students are young couples who have experienced a personal tragedy that has impacted their ability to pay for school; are raising small children; or are serving within their local ward's bishopric, elders quorum, or another calling. Many times, to make ends meet, a spouse must work evenings and weekends, sacrificing caring for the family and depending on the student's off-school hours for child care rather than studying.
