I would like to suggest to you a trip that is in the beginning stages of planning for this fall.

Location: Phnom Penh Cambodia
Date: Late Oct. early Nov. (between the floods and drought.)
Special sights: Anchor Watt ( Buddhist Temples, one of the seven wonders of the world)

The Plan:
This would be an outstanding opportunity for the special people who have in the past gone on Ayuda dental trips to use their expertise for the benefit of a very special people. The Khmer population in Cambodia has been decimated by civil war. And now these humble people are accepting the Gospel in record numbers. There are approximately 20 out of a total of 80 missionaries that are native Khmer Elders. Many of these have never been to the dentist. Then there are the Elders and Sister putting in papers for missions outside the country. Their dental exams are far from adequate. Then there are the younger members who are just waiting for the day that they will be old enough to put in their papers for missions. Add some older members with dental problems and you have the basis for a real "Ayuda Experience".

Elder Ralph Francis, a dentist, is serving in Phnom Penh with Latter-Day Saint Charities, setting up dental projects. He has received two mobile units from LDS Dental Academy and would coordinate our use of the branch buildings for the clinics. President John Colton of the Cambodian mission has expressed his gratitude for any dental treatment that can be done.

It is a 20 hour flight by way of Japan to Bangkok to Phnom Penh. We would see as many patients as possible in six days and then you need a minimum of three day at Siem Reap (Anchor Watt).

As I contemplate returning to this incredible country I can envision a real once in a life time experience for all those going. I know most of you have very active full schedules so I wanted to give you as much information as possible so that you might put this on your calendar. We will firm up the dates, the cost, the number of dentists etc. so you will have all the facts.

Looking forward to working with you again,

Richard Smith
