The potential that we have both individually and as a body of LDS dentists is tremendous. It is both rewarding and humbling to associate with so many of you who put forth much effort to turn vision and potential into educational opportunities, improving dental health, and sharing the gospel with/for many who are in real need of these blessings. This newsletter's main focus is the many service endeavors that we are involved with as an academy. I encourage you to take the time to read the newsletter. There is much going on and we hope that our vision and optimism are contagious. We continue to work closely with the Church Humanitarian and Missionary Departments to help meet their needs for dental missionaries, to establish modern clinics in needed locations, and to educate, much as was done in Lima, Peru. We anticipate the opportunity to work with the Church in establishing clinics near MTCs in Third World countries where the dental needs of missionaries could be met in addition to educational and service opportunities. In support of this effort, we have undertaken the establishment of a database so that we may quickly respond to Church requests for dental missionaries. We also anticipate the need to help the Church financially with these projects and have established a foundation to raise money in the form of gifts, endowments, etc., to support needed projects. We encourage your support of both of these endeavors. Our members continue to take advantage of service opportunities worldwide through organizations such as Choice, Ayuda, Chasqui, and even on their own. We have available 15+ mobile Adec delivery systems that these organizations "borrow" for use by our members and others. Some of these are available for your use on personal service "expeditions." We are still involved in serving the dental needs of orphanages in Guadalajara, Mexico. Our involvement and influence in Lima, Peru continue as periodic Academy-sponsored groups travel to Lima to educate both students and faculty. We have facilitated placement of and continue to assist dental missionaries in Mongolia, Indonesia, Cambodia, and other countries. I sincerely thank the many members of the Academy and executive committee whose dedicated efforts make the Academy continue to grow in its scope, influence, and potential. We eagerly encourage your support and look forward to our association with you at our upcoming meeting August 15-16. Share the benefits and opportunities of the Academy with a friend/colleague.
