Galapagos Island Service Project

November 20 to December 1, 2002, Charity Anywhere, Intl., directed a rewarding service expedition to the Galapagos Islands off the coast of Ecuador, S. A. Around fifty volunteers from the United States and mainland Ecuador spent a most memorable Thanksgiving serving on these islands famous for their unique species of wildlife and beauty.

Academy member Jeffrey Hill, DDS, of Ogden, Utah, along with Dr. Washington Zambrano of Quito, Ecuador, spearheaded a four-dentist team that attended over 400 patients in ten days using portable dental equipment. Gratefully, a large amount of restorative dentistry was performed, saving far more teeth than were extracted on the trip. Additionally, on the trip over 400 medical patients were attended, including psychology interviews, and several significant construction projects were initiated or facilitated.

In conjunction with the Academy, Charity Anywhere will sponsor two return trips in 2003: May 23 -June 1 and November 21 -30. These trips incorporate holidays to minimize lost work time. We are looking for dentists, medical doctors, optometrists, general volunteers (especially Spanish speakers), and cash donations for these expeditions.
