Distinguished Service Award 2000

award being givenDuring the Saturday luncheon at the August Conference, the Academy presented the Distinguished Service Award to Richard Condie Smith and Harris Nielson Done.

Richard Condie Smith

Dr. Smith was born in Bountiful, Utah, and was reared in Millard and Utah counties. He served as a missionary in the Eastern States Mission. After his mission, Dr. Smith received a BS degree in geology from Brigham Young University and a DDS degree from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. He practiced general dentistry in Westlake Village, California, from 1965 to June 2000. He has coordinated charity dental clinics for the past 30 years with Ayuda, Havasupi Indian Reservation, and Marble Canyon Navajo Indian Reservation and in Belize, Guatemala, Mexico, Chile, Peru, and Siberia.

Harris Nielson Done

Dr. Harris was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and was reared in Idaho and California. He served as a missionary in Denmark. After receiving his BA degree from Brigham Young University, he received his DDS degree from the University of Southern California. He has been involved in charity dental clinics for the past 32 years in nearly a dozen countries, including the United States. He has received several awards, including the Catlin Peace Pipe National Service Award, Good Samaritan Award, National ADA Foreign Service Award, Golden Bell Award, and Humanitarian of the Year Award.
