The Academy is alive and well and quietly doing much good in many parts of the world. In just the past few months, representatives of the Academy have been to Ghana (exploring the need for a missionary-supported dental clinic) and Honduras (accessing needs and supporting a group of non-dentists from Provo who are ambitiously making a difference in Honduras). We thank Rick Meyers and John Bevan for their efforts. Gordon is back from his mission. We welcome him and are pleased to have his energy, enthusiasm, and insights. We look forward to hearing from him again at our conference. It is a privilege to interact with the members of the executive committee who do so much to carry the work of the Academy forward. We are actively looking for a Spanish-speaking missionary couple to go to Honduras. If you qualify or know of anyone who might, please contact Jerry Summerhays at 801-268-4436. As our vision and influence continue to grow, we have felt the need to establish and solicit donations to the “Academy of LDS Dentists Humanitarian Foundation.” The purpose of the foundation is to allow the Academy to meet humanitarian and educational requests/needs throughout the world. A foundation donation form can be found on our web page, www.academyofldsdentists.com.Currently there are immediate needs in Honduras and opportunities/needs continue to present themselves. We desire to set up a fund, much like the Church’s Perpetual Education Fund, to allow us to grant loans to dentists in impoverished countries who cannot afford to establish a clinic to practice in. With Gordon’s vision and experience, we will be doubling our efforts in educating dentists and dental educators worldwide. Imparting our knowledge is the most profound and efficient way that we can make a difference and Gordon is a wonderful resource and catalyst in this area. We appreciate your support and encourage your continued support financially and in areas of service. The Academy would not be what it is without the interest, support, generous contributions, and service of its members. We look forward to seeing you at what promises to be an outstanding conference. May the coming months bring you happiness and success. Sincerely,
