Service Opportunities

Salt Lake City, Utah

The Christmas Box House International announces dates for 2004 humanitarian expeditions to Peru. Humanitarian expeditions are eleven to twelve day trips to the jungles and Andes of Peru where participants contribute their time and resources to benefit the lives of poor children and communities. Projects are selected in the areas of health and hygiene, literacy and education, and food and water. Previous expeditions have included construction of kitchens, greenhouses, and bathrooms for grade schools as well as individual medical attention.

The Christmas Box House International is a tax-exempt organization that builds one-stop assessment centers for abused and neglected children through age twelve. The children who go to these shelters receive mental, emotional, and physical care in a home-like loving environment. In 2004, The Christmas Box House International will provide assistance at a shelter in Cusco, Peru for orphaned, homeless boys. It is estimated there are at least 300 homeless boys roaming the streets of Cusco between the ages of 7 and 15. The dates of planned expeditions for 2004 are: June 9-20, June 30-July 12, July 14-25, July 28-August 8, and August 11-22.

The public is invited to participate in expeditions. Groups are limited to 35, and the cost is $1950 per person (includes all airfare, hotels, meals, and local travel). In most cases, the cost of this trip should be deductible for federal tax purposes. However, each participant should contact his/her own tax advisor to confirm that treatment.
