Special Guest Attends Conference

Alejandro Robles from Lima, Peru was a special guest at our August conference. His goal for his visitation was to represent the Dental School of San Marcos in developing written agreements with the Academy of LDS Dentists for future relations.

In 1998 when the idea of developing a relationship with the San Marcos Dental School was envisioned, Brother Robles was acting as an Area Authority Seventy for Peru and Bolivia. He was also a professor in the Pediatric Dentistry Department of San Marcos. Because of his position in the church, he had knowledge of humanitarian service needs and developed an initial project to address the needs of higher education at San Marcos. The overall extent of the project grew as a result of the efforts of Jerry Summerhays working to get a sizable donation from different dental supply houses and manufactures. These donations enabled the project to include the complete construction of a brand new 6 chair dental clinic fully equipped with every type of modern equipment and materials to perform every procedure available in dentistry today. Brother Robles worked feverishly to coordinate with all the bureaucracy and red tape at the university in order procure the space within the dental school for the clinic. Dr. Rick Meyers and his wife Alma were called to serve a mission assembled the clinic and started a relationship with the dental school which is still ongoing. The fruit of this endeavor is only beginning to be shown.

Alejandro Robles is currently serving as 1st councilor in the MTC presidency in Lima, Peru. He and his wife Gloria are the parents of 4 children. The university administration of the University of San Marcos has given him the prestigious title of Professor Emeritus. He is currently doing research at the San Marcos Dental School along with a private pediatric dental practice.
